Warm Saharan winds
blow from the South in summer
ceaselessly
releasing
unrepentant heat;
Warm Saharan winds
blew spices of Morocco
and dances
free and wild
into Iberia;
Warm Saharan winds
like hot breath
on the scorched earth
speak of a sandstorm
in a far-off land;
Warm Saharan winds
in Summer blow through
all our lives
and all our doubts
and fears;
Warm Saharan winds
which leave us sleepless through
the breathless night
and on into the dawn, still
too soon gone.

It’s a year since we moved to Slovenia
That makes it just over a year since we left Spain. I wrote this poem as I prepared to leave enchanting Andalusia. I missed it a lot, especially in early spring, when it is not too hot but balmy and delightful. Now however, the weather on the Slovenian is coast is balmy and delightful, just when it would be turning too hot for me in Southern Spain. Perhaps the winds of life blow us where we need to go, if we let them.
If you’re interested, you can read about my road trip from Spain to Slovenia during the first lockdown last year:
Day 1: Malaga-Tortosa
Day 2: Tortosa-Nice
Day 3: Nice-Slovenia
Just reading this makes me nostalgic to be on the road again! Hopefully it won’t be too long now…
Beautiful 💖 💖 💖 well written! 😍

Gorgeous 💕
Thank you 😊
My pleasure 😊
A very evocative set of verses Ingrid. I remember Summers there! Some beautiful landscapes and yes, those warm Saharan winds… 🤔
They’re also like a big hairdryer in the sky but that didn’t sound very poetic 😂
That’s funny! Haha Ingrid… you rightly excluded that description. Though thinking back, yes – the intensity of the breezes and the dryness of heat!!!
Wow, that’s very beautiful! 👏🏼😊
Thank you! 🙂 🙂
Warm Saharan winds
Do not reach us
in England.
How dissappointing!

Lol is that a Haiku
Could almost feel that hot breeze. Brilliant.
Thank you Vinny! Sometimes it was too hot 🥵
Yeah I can imagine. We went to Greece a couple of years ago and it was over 100 degrees which was a bit on the hot side. Not so much the days but the nights just sermed to get hotter.
oh such beautiful imagery and memories in poetry Ingid❣️💖🌷
Thank you Cindy 🏜 I don’t think a lot of people saw this as it was a repost and didn’t show up on the reader, so thanks for taking the time to read 😊
Oh I’m not sure if I did see it before but it had a ring to it.. xo💖
I’ve written a bit of my time in Africa, including the Sahara. I’m glad to have read this, and to remember ~
Thank you. I haven’t yet been even though we lived very close to Morocco. Hopefully once the world opens up a bit more!
I enjoyed Morocco. We had a snowfight in the Haute Atlas in early December (1987. I’m kinda old…) ~
