Going Viral: A Diary

I went viral this weekend. Not in the oft-sought-after Twitter sense, but in the not-feeling-very-well sense. Given the current climate, I thought I might be coming down with Covid-19. Thankfully, I’m feeling better now. But the diarist in me had to record the experience, despite how bad I felt. Here’s the result:

19/06/20

Woke up feeling ok then
Tried to dye my hair and
Felt the skin on my scalp crawl
Low fever
Aching limbs
Scarcely able to get out of bed at all

20/06/20

Woke up in a pool of sweat
Thinking the fever broken
Staggered downstairs to wash some clothes
Then had to retreat to bed again
A truncal red rash signalling
A microscopic fight within

21/06/20

Woke up feeling better this time
Showered and tried to get on with life
Felt my legs turn to jelly beneath me
Back to my bed to hide under my duvet
Be careful what you wish for:
Going viral isn’t always a good thing!

Perhaps this is a timely reminder that although the situation seems to be getting better overall, we still need to take precautions in order to protect ourselves and those around us. I hate to use a cliche but ‘stay safe’ everyone!

  1. I like that you documented it Ingrid, yes going viral isn’t always the best thing. But if you survive it strengthens the immune system. I’m feeling a bit achy myself lately so I agree it’s a good reminder to take good care of ourselves. Hugs and thanks for sharing. 💛

  2. Oh dear Ingrid, so dirty to hear that you have been feeling unwell this time. Your words are as always so descriptive. Some you Time is needed, but I doubt that is possible with the children. ‘Get a well Soon’ sounds a bit hollow. So, hoping you manage to smile lots soon x

    1. Thank you Andi, I’m sure you know well enough how hard it is to get some ‘me time’ with young children! But I rest when I can, and I’ll get there 🙂 Hope you and your family are all well, Ingrid.

  3. I just caught up with this post. It sounds as though you were very poorly.Pleased to hear that you are now much better. What were you thinking trying to dye your hair when you were so unwell? And then the next day washing clothes? I think I would be the same – determined to keep going! Take it easy now though as it must have left you feeling weak and depleted.

    1. Thank you Deborah! I am a lot better now but still a bit weak. I guess I still tried to wash clothes because I knew no one else was going to do it!
