Voyage of the H.M.S. ‘Partner’ #poetry

I’m sailing on the Partner ship
through ever-changing seas
at times a raging storm blows up
then breaks to blissful peace:

At least half-way around the world
this Partner ship has carried
me far, to lands and dreams untold
where often I have tarried

to learn the tongues of foreign lands,
adapting to the changes
of life bound in by wedding bands
yet free, as my heart ranges:

The mountain heights, the valleys low
the shifting golden sands
warmed by Saharan winds that blow
from distant desert-lands.

But never once, upon this ship
have I been left alone
though desperate, isolation’s grip
has never been my home.

And so I thank my Partnership
for carrying me this far
until my life is done, I hope
to sail beneath its star.

This one’s dedicated to the one I love. I think that’s all I need to say.

  1. This is so touching and warm Ingrid and I’m sure your beloved with LOVE it. Love the metaphors of the sea for life in marriage carries us through many rough seas and hopefully under that star at the end. ❀️ Cindy

  2. Everything combines so well here. It flows beautifully and the rhyming I like (why wouldn’t I?)

The enjambment between two verse caught my eye. Nice. Added variety…

    where often I have tarried

to learn the tongues of foreign lands

What better title for the ship……
