Book Design – after Ivor Steven #poetry

Creativity fired
and I’m feeling wired
Indesign I’m dancing
but my skills need some enhancing
help me to sing
this pixelated melody, this
poetic symphony
simply must
come
to
be…

I hope Ivor won’t mind my little tribute

I was trying to emulate his style when I wrote this, as I so enjoyed his poetic updates on the progress of his book, Tullawalla, as he awaited the publication of the print version. I am happy to report that the print version is now available, and has made its way up the bestseller charts! A big congratulation to Ivor, it has been wonderful to share in the excitement of his journey.

As for my anthology, The Anthropocene Hymnal, I suffered a blow when the designer I’d been working with was unable to deliver the project. So guess what? I’ve spent the last week learning how to use Adobe InDesign and PhotoShop, and as a result I’m putting together a book design that I’m really rather proud of.

For all contributors and others awaiting the book’s release, I do apologise for the delay, but rest assured that something special is in design. Thank you for your patience, and please stay tuned for further updates!

  1. Thank you Ingrid for you shout out … and I am totally impressed that you’ve able design your book cover … awesome, and I am really looking forward to the results of your self-driven creative prowess … πŸ˜€πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜πŸŒ

      1. Well done Ingrid .. and the finish line is like trying to find the end of a rainbow 🌈 sometimes. ..

  2. Your work will be worth the wait. And I love this little poem that is born of recent experience… it will become for you one of those personal little treasures in time.

    1. Thank you – it’s an anthology so I feel a sense of responsibility to all of the contributors to come up with something special!

  3. Love your cheerful words, Ingrid, especially in the face of such a disappointment! May your skills continue to grow within the designs of both ink and digital interface. πŸ™‚

  4. How fun! Your poem not only mentioned dancing, it felt like a joyful dance. My experience with InDesign felt more like hair pulling, but I did learn a little each time. Sorry to read about your design frustrations, but no doubt your personal touches will surpass theirs! Can’t wait!! πŸ˜„ πŸ€—
Congrats to Ivor! That is very exciting!!πŸ‘πŸΌ

    1. Did you use it to create your Being a Woman collection? They do have a beautiful presentation and finish so I think you did great πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ˜Š

      1. Yes, Sam and I did. We shared files – I added the poetry and she did the art and titles. It was definitely a process. Once completed, I saved as a PDF file for the paperback copies and used another program for the eBooks. The covers are separate files. Phew! Thank you! We learned a lot. πŸ˜…

      2. Yes, that sounds similar to what I’m doing! My dad is sending me illustrations, but I’m having to edit those as well to fit them in the book using photoshop πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

      3. At least making my own books should be more straightforward in future now I’ve learned what to do πŸ˜…

      4. This is so true. We learned more each time. We didn’t quite have the file sharing down with the first one, so figuring that out helped. Now the challenge will be remembering everything when I do that again. πŸ˜† Marketing is another subject that I am clueless on!

      5. Oh that is going to be a lot of work and I’m also trying to plan that in parallel with making the book. Also I’m not allowed to market it as a charity book without permission from WWF so that’s another complication πŸ˜… but we’ll get there 🌳🌎❀️

      6. It is a blessing. πŸ’– A project that is strengthening your bond and will be made even more special by your dad’s contribution. I am so excited for you two and to read your collection! Will you have a paperback copy?

      7. I will have a paperback and maybe even a hardback option! I will update you once I have a publication date ❀️

      1. Thanks Cindy! I’m really hoping to push it out by August (it actually feels like giving birth LOL) so I can enjoy my vacation 😎

      2. Great advice Cindy thank you πŸ™πŸ€―πŸ˜… I’m not American but I’ll be giving myself tomorrow off anyway πŸ₯³

      3. You’re welcome… well, I know you’re not American but anything to get us to take a break is a good day to celebrate for us junkies. Sent you an email but it came back.. no clue why.. πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸŒ·πŸ˜˜
