Like a singing bird #quadrille #dVerse

Heart on hand
I have to tell you
how I’ve missed you, how
I found it near-impossible
to live without you
be without you

now, my heart is smiling
like a singing bird:
a rising, flying, darkness-binding
swift-winged creature
free as
my true word.

  1. Oh how stunning! I love how you associate the heart, it’s undying flame with the singing of a bird. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

  2. Birds have a way of singing that makes us know everything is going to be ok. I like how you liken your heart and seeing a loved one to the singing of birds. Beautiful quadrille, Ingrid.

  3. Quite excellent – nicely physical, wonderful imagery. As you’ve pointed out yourself, it’s also a most excellent nod to Rossetti – both through the obvious link, but also through a lovely call to our Victorian passions. Nicely penned.

  4. swift-winged creature
    free as my true word.

Giving one’s word is a dignified stance and freely and faithfully is a good principle. Good close Ingrid!

  5. Ingrid – that last line is so interesting to me… that’s what comes to you when you think of “as free as”? That would not have come to me… but maybe my true words are less free than yours!

    1. Interesting! My true word is possibly the free-est thing I have to give, but also the most valuableโ€ฆmaybe I meant that my true word sets me free? Youโ€™ve got me thinking now!
