Let it linger #dVerse #quadrille

Let it linger, long
after you have gone
and your lover’s lullaby has faded to a whisper.

Let it linger on
into the dawn
of a new life that I imagined
might have been my own.

Let it linger
as I linger on, alone.

Tonight, Linda is hosting Quadrille, and she has given us the word ‘linger’ to include in our poem of exactly 44 words. I immediately thought of the Cranberries song, but since Linda has already played that for us, here’s a Lover’s Lullaby:

  1. A lovely lingering, Ingrid!
(I didn’t see this in Mister Linky.)

Thank you for the Janis Ian song. I haven’t heard this one in a long time. Maybe the best concert I ever went to was to see her at a little coffee bar in a S. Jersey strip mall. We were sitting only a few feet away from her. I was just mesmerized, and it was only time I’ve ever bought a poster and waited to have it autographed. I told her it was the best concert I’d ever been to–and she gave me a bracelet! The poster is hanging in our kitchen.

    1. Oh dear, Merril: I scheduled this early, then fell asleep before I had the chance to post to Mr Linky πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

That’s a wonderful story about Janis Ian – she’s not very well known over here nowadays, but I think she has a huge following in Asia.

      1. I wondered. πŸ˜€
Oh, that’s funny to think she has a big following in Asia. It seems so unlikely. She seems like she could be related to me–short, Eastern European Jewish, liberal, and even being gay fits in with my family!🀣

      1. Yes I agree my friend … and here I am listening to his music now … I supposed I’m addicted … πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ“˜

  2. Ingrid,
Soul-crushingly, soul-ravishingly perfect, the sense of being bereft yet filled with love’s memories.
    pax,
    dora
