The Anthropocene Hymnal is Live!

Welcome to this hotly-anticipated poetry event, at which many of the contributors to The Anthropocene Hymnal will read their poems. I am holding the event as a way to mark the COP-26 climate conference in Glasgow. I dearly wish that I could be there to take part in some poetry-themed protesting! To join us online, just follow the link below:

First link (from 5:00 CET) https://meet.google.com/osx-mbsa-dch

You are welcome to join with or without camera, but we do intend to record the event and share this on YouTube, so make sure you are ok with this if you choose to use your camera. Please keep your microphone muted in during the readings, and of course be kind and courteous at all times! If the event lasts longer than 1 hour, you will have to rejoin using the following link:

Second link (from 5:55 CET:) https://meet.google.com/eqe-hxps-snj

You can find the programme here. Once the event is over, if all goes well with the recording, we will post this below, in case you didn’t get the chance to attend the live event. I hope to see you very soon!

  1. Thanks for hosting this, Ingrid! Hoping the recording turned out well and we can share far and wide. A great collection of passionate voices who bring me hope for the future! 💕😍💕

  2. I won’t be able to attend Ingrid … but here is beautiful words from “Leonard Cohen”
    “A Kite is a Victim”

A kite is a victim you are sure of.
You love it because it pulls
gentle enough to call you master,
    strong enough to call you fool;
    because it lives
    like a desperate trained falcon
    in the high sweet air,
and you can always haul it down
to tame it in your drawer.

A kite is a fish you have already caught
in a pool where no fish come,
so you play him carefully and long,
and hope he won’t give up,
    or the wind die down.

A kite is the last poem you’ve written
so you give it to the wind,
but you don’t let it go
    until someone finds you
    something else to do.

A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
    the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
    under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.
