A PMDD Christmas Wish #poetry #PMDD

**Warning: contains strong language and references to the female reproductive system**

Chestnuts not roasting on an open fire
for fear I may incinerate myself
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
trigger my auditory startle response.
Everybody knows

cold turkey without meds can be
a recipe for disaster time
but the drugs don’t work for me right now you see
so I’ll just die inside and say ‘I’m fine:’

I know that Santa’s on his way
and there’s really only one thing I would say,
‘If you could grant my Christmas wish
you’d send a surgeon to remove my uterus.’

And so I’m offering this simple wish
to all who suffer as I do…

Although it’s been said
many times, many ways…

PMDD
FUCK YOU!

This one goes out to my fellow sufferers

Having just got through a fortnight of PMDD Hell, my next wave of symptoms are scheduled to hit just as Santa arrives. I am trying out a new treatment, but I am not altogether confident it will agree with me. I don’t think PMDD is funny in any way, but I wanted to write something which might bring a smile to the faces of fellow sufferers, who will surely identify with the scenarios I describe above.

If you want to know more about PMDD, check out the IAPMD Website. You can also read my past posts on PMDD, and feel free to reach out to me by email if you have been affected by this condition.

  1. I hope your treatments bring you some relief this Christmas! I had a migraine the last few days and I think it’s hormone related. Although PMDD is not funny, I think it’s healthy to vent and bring more awareness to the struggle! 🤗

    1. I had to spend most of the past week in bed warding off a migraine – it’s so debilitating! I hope you get some relief soon too 🤗

  2. Oh Ingrid my friend It is not funny at all and you are amazing how you go thru it all.

Fuck PMDD and the sleigh that comes with it
Now Santa deliver respite or we’ll have to get blitzen… !

and You can’t even do that but you can blog since you’ve replaced alcohol with pen and paper…and I’ll meet you there.s.
    Sending love my dear!!! 💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏🌷🌷🙏🌷🌷❤️❤️

  3. A creative twist to your ongoing anguish. I hope Santa arrives joyously in your home and your next wave of symptoms arrive gently. Enjoy the respite while you can.

  4. I haven’t heard of this, but I can relate to the rollercoaster caused by issues with Serotonin.
They say knowing is part of the battle, I hope for you this holiday season relief, warmth, and patience from family and friends. You have mine, anyways. 💜

    1. Thank you K. I think my serotonin levels get pretty messed up towards the end of my cycle. Wishing you all the best for the holiday season too ❤️

  5. My heart goes out to you. I am post menopausal now but spent my early adult life suffering terrible period pain. It turned out I was a freak – my body had started to create two wombs at puberty (which happens sometimes) but decided one was enough and the second one became a lump of tissue which blocked one fallopian tube. Try explaining that to the boss when you can’t go to work for three days every month. Eventually I had the tissue removed but still suffered with migraines every month. Being a woman is a bitch sometimes! Take care. Love – Suzanne

      1. It was awful. Fortunately a specialist finally discovered the problem when I was 21 and operated. Periods got less painful after that. I hope you can find some treatment that brings you relief.

      2. I am pleased you got treatment relatively early on. There are effective treatments available for me, I just have to fight (or pay) to access them.

      3. Medical treatments can be so expensive. I’ve been waiting for surgery via the public system. Everything has been delayed because of covid. I forked out to see a specialist yesterday only to be told I may as well keep waiting for get the surgery privately will cost over $8000!

      4. I can get a chemical version of the surgery for now, but it will either be a big bill or a long wait for the surgery as you said! I hope you don’t have to wait too long for yours.

  6. Oh, sweetie. I’m so sorry to hear this. Wish I could do something.
But this creative piece speaks loudly.
Here’s a hug. No chestnuts— I see why. Blessings, girl. ♥️

  7. Would removing the uterus help?
I can’t even begin to imagine the ordeal you endure month after month. Take care an don’t lose hope. Hope Christmas will be uneventful. ❤️
