The sun appearing over a thick band of grey cloud after many days is a celebration, lighting the world in glory. A welcome sight on the eve of New Year’s Eve.
We should take the time to celebrate all the golden moments, which pass so quickly, yet live within. The true magic of Christmas resides in such moments: light in the children’s eyes, sleepless nights, anticipation…Will he come?
Reflection is also an act of celebration, a worthy ritual at the turning of the year, when we look back on all that has been, and whatever is to come. Embrace it, dive in:
Break the barrier
push the boundaries of life
beyond containment
Written for dVerse
Everyone’s favourite Poets’ Pub re-opens after the Holiday Break, and Lisa opens the proceedings by hosting Haibun Monday, where she asks us to write haibun on the theme of celebration.
I am happy you could reflect… this holiday is hard with one of my best friend going through a divorce… so it has not been a good year… best wishes
It’s been a tricky one for me, too: I’m glad it’s over 😅
it has been an odd year some great highs and really low lows. so your reflective poem suits the feel of the festive season wonderfully.
Thank you Rog!
Those brief moments are so important. I like the idea of reflection as celebration.
Thank you Sarah: it’s something I enjoy, so I celebrate 😊
With two young ones, you are doubly blessed to see that excitement in their faces. Best wishes for you and yours in the coming year, Ingrid <3
Thank you, Lisa: and to you and yours! ❤️
You’re welcome <3
A lovely inspirational message, Ingrid! It’s good to step back sometimes and see things from a child’s eyes.
Thank you, Merril: we all have an inner child 😊
That we do–though sometimes we forget.
So lovely Ingrid.
Thanks Linda 😊
Fine words and top-notch sentiments!
I am glad you enjoyed this little offering 😊
Ah, I adore the ephemeral inspiring clutch for fancy. Delightfully done, invigorating to the spirit.
Thank you Masa 😊
Truer words have never been spoken, Ingrid! Loved this snippet the most:
“We should take the time to celebrate all the golden moments, which pass so quickly, yet live within. The true magic of Christmas resides in such moments: light in the children’s eyes, sleepless nights, anticipation…Will he come?”
It’s so much fun and lively when thinking back to those days. My favorite is the holiday baked goods. Idk why, but everything tastes better when you’re a kid in my experience. Must be the excitement and curiosity that festers and even memories associated with them too. I still love the holidays, to an extent, but I don’t feel the magic as much. This season was hard on me a bit admittedly, but we must take each moment and live through it as it comes like you say; cherish them, appreciate them. Amazing piece. <3 <3
Thank you so much for your in-depth reading and comment, Lucy! My children were so excited they were literally bouncing off the walls 😊 I think I caught a little of that magic ❤️
Reflections are such an important part of our lives. It’s good to be reminded they’re important.
Thank you: I think so 😊
Wonderfully insightful and positive work, Ingrid. Thanks.
Thanks Ron. Glad you enjoyed!
Certainly a good time to reflect on the past and what is to come. Happy new year to you!
Happy New Year to you Grace, thank you!
I like to reflect and set new goals. The haibun is perfect, all about growth! 🤩
It seems like the right time… 😄
Wonderful haiku: A mantra for the new year.
Thank you Maria, I will try to make it mine!
I’m enraptured by these lovely words. They’re right up my zone of extraordinaire: the ordinary gifts that abound for us everyday. What a celebration these deserve. 👏
And sad thing these golden moments that almost always replenish our souls would totally go unnoticed if we didn’t give them prominence. (I have a post scheduled that speaks of that)
So I’m overjoyed to find this common theme here. Spoke ti me tons, Ingrid. Thank you. Lovely all the way around. I bless you. Happy New Year.
Oh, I am so glad you connected with this, Selma. It makes me happy 😊
Very nicely done. I like your thought that reflection can be celebration.
I enjoyed your song with Cindy G. on breaking out of Rehab!
Thank you, Dwight! Cindy and I had fun that day 🤣
I could tell! :>)
Absolutely!! It’s often amazing to reflect on our past achievements, dear Ingrid. Wonderful thoughts 💖
Thank you Lamittan 😊
Most welcome
serene shot and much wisdom in your words Ingrid
Thank you Kate: I do like a daily dose of serenity 🙏
yes, I names my cottage ‘serenity’, just being here is nurturing 🙂
😊
The analogy with the sun breaking through the clouds is a good one. They are only ever moments, gone too soon.
And so we must enjoy them 😊
Exactly
Yes – always to live beyond containment, pushing on.
Thanks Paul, I’m pleased you get it!
For me, that’s ultimately what it’s all about, Ingrid.

It’s gotta be 🤩
Such beautiful reflections and such sweet memories of delight of the wee ones Ingrid!. Your boys are precious!❤️❤️
Thank you, Cindy: they are indeed 😍
❤️🙏🙌🎉
Wonderful haiku! 🙂
Thank you 🙏
Nice reflection, but I absolutely love the haiku ending!
Thank you so much 😊
I loved this “Reflection is also an act of celebration, a worthy ritual at the turning of the year, when we look back on all that has been, and whatever is to come. Embrace it, dive in:”
Thank you Mary: I am feeling a lot of gratitude at the moment 🙏
“Reflection is also an act of celebration.”
“Reflection is also an act of celebration, a worthy ritual” – really like that philosophy; lovely warm haibun.
Thanks, Ain, it has been a lovely warm start to the year for me. Wishing you all the best for 2022!
Making most of the “golden moments”, that’s what life is all about! What a beautiful, reflective haibun, Ingrid. ❤️
Thank you Punam 🥰
Excellent, Ingrid.
Are we not all children at this time of the year? If not in anticipation of a fabled benevolent figure, then in an expectation of positive change in the new year. Sometimes, we cannot help being a hopeful kind.
I couldn’t agree more, Ken, thank you!
So true that reflection is an act of celebration. I have One Word that centers my year and last year it was celebration and that focused me on looking back with fresh eyes. It’s amazing the beauty you can find, when you look for it, isn’t it?
I so love your haiku, too. Breaking the boundaries: so often I discover it’s my own thinking that holds me back from enjoying life. Learning to still and listen for the way that breaks “the rules” to love.
I’ve just been writing on that very subject again, what Blake called ‘mind-forg’d manacles.’ Thank you for your perspective and insightful comment!
Oh, what a lovely write, and I adore the line, beyond containment. That’s wonderful, Ingrid. ✨☺️
Thank you so much 🙏
You’re most welcome. Always my pleasure. 🙏
Wonderful, Ingrid. Your ending haiku sums it up so beautifully.
Thanks Dale!
