Salt crusts from the sea-spray
rust iron railings
down in the Bay
Cling to my hair and face:
if you licked me, I’d taste of the sea
like Aphrodite
Dapple my eyes, send
salt, salt water raining
down my flushed cheeks, overwhelmed by joy

Tonight, De hosts Quadrille, and has asked us to include the word ‘salt‘ in our 44-word poems. Inevitably, when I think of salt, I think of the sea!
That is almost crazily good, Ingrid…really delightful..what a light touch!
Thank you, Ain, you know I hate to over-season my poetry 🤣
Yes! Reminds me of the verse you wrote (write) about your beloved Lake District, how the tones are presented with the same touches…
The sea woos me, too, Ingrid. Always. Love this.
I just couldn’t resist a word which made me think of the sea 🌊
reading poems about licking people is not good at suppertime 🤣
😳 my bad 😅
I love that kind of salty cheeks… so joyful and sunny
Yes, it is invigorating to the senses, thank you!

It always gives me a lift! Thank you Laura 😊

I am glad you enjoyed this Rog!
You know how much I love micropoetry and this one is one of my favorites; it is simple yet so full of worldly imagery and scent!
Thank you, Jaya, this means a lot coming from you!
Beautiful brevity, Ingrid. Those iron railings, so vivid; but of course, you are infinitely lovelier than Aphrodite.
I couldn’t possibly vouch for that, but thank you 😅
A great poem, Ingrid! The sea, like the moon, draws us to it! Salt is helpful and can be destructive if not controllled.
Yes, it is both useful and damaging!
salt water raining
down my flushed cheeks,
overwhelmed by joy
Isn’t it fun to have a natural taste of the sea breeze more or less on human skin. Love it Ingrid!
Hank
Thank you Hank!
It’s always good to taste (of) the sea. (K)
It certainly is! 🙂
I like reading the first line of the second stanza as a command to the salt crusts. Beautiful photo and lovely imagery.
Nicely spotted: it can be read in two ways!
I love your nod to Hephaestus, Ingrid; with the ‘rust iron railings’

It was more of an observation than an invitation! 😅 glad you enjoyed the poem 😊

Sometimes 80 or so people read these quadrilles…🤣

such a delightful ‘taste’ of the salty sea, now to go out and enjoy it!
Maybe once it stops raining 😅
lol same here, the rain is unreal … and now flooding 🙁
This is so refreshing! So wish I was at the sea right now lost in the spray.
It is a revitalizing experience!
Your joyous poem takes me back age nine, the first time I ever saw the ocean. <3 I remember leaping up and riding the waves at Virginia Beach. The salt-crusted skin and hair and the taste of salt are so vividly captured in your delightful poem, Ingrid! Sadly, I missed out on the sensual experience of someone else licking the salt from my skin! 🙂
Thank you, Cheryl! I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that either, but I know the taste from licking my top lip 😅 glad you enjoyed ❤️
This is wonderful Ingrid, so sensual!
Thank you Kate!
Tears of joy – the best kind.
😊
“I’d taste of the sea
like Aphrodite’
it’s one of those oh-so-obvious things that you need a poet to figure out.
😊
Loved that. Reminds me of hot beaches and blue seas.
