New Lyricist Cover Reveal!

After much hard work on the part of the Editorial Team, the New Lyricist cover design can finally be revealed in all its glory. We experimented with different colours and layouts, but there was one artwork and one alone which I wanted for the cover.

About the cover art

Meditation on The Living Mountain (with Nan Shepherd), 2020 Acrylic, montage. 8×10″ © Nick Reeves was the image I had in mind for the front cover from the start. I love the painting’s movement, textures and bold colour palette. It was only later that I discovered Shepherd was herself a lyrical poet. I knew her as ‘the lady from the Scottish £5 note.’ It turns out that her poems were inspired by nature, especially the mountains of her home in Northern Scotland. I can identify with this: a serendipitous choice for the front cover! The orange colour popped out when Nick sent me a high-resolution image of his painting. I’m excited to reveal it to you today.

Coming soon

We are currently on target for the scheduled publication date of 20 July 2024. In addition to the best in contemporary lyrical poetry, the magazine will include features by writers and artists, stunning artwork, short fiction and nonfiction pieces. Stay tuned for further updates: I will be revealing the contributor list in the run-up to launch day.
