Celebrating the launch of New Lyricist at Hare Hair, Cullercoats

Yesterday was an exciting day for Team EIF, as we launched our first ever issue of New Lyricist magazine. We celebrated the launch with performances from cassettes and Ribbon Road, at the community Arts hub which is Hare Hair in Cullercoats, North East England.

Nick gave the magazine a wonderful introduction:

He then went on to play a set as cassettes, during which he gave an electrifying performance. Here is the original New Lyricist himself, playing the classic single, ‘Receipts’:

You can find the full set on the EIF YouTube channel.

Nick was followed by the soulful folk duo, Ribbon Road. Hailing from rural Northumberland, this accomplished husband-and-wife team gave a performance suffused with lyricism and emotion, well suited to the launch of a magazine celebrating lyrical poetry. I hope to be able to bring you footage of their performance very soon.

To close proceedings, I gave a brief talk about the origins of New Lyricist: from an idea born with the publication of Archery In The UK (EIF, 2023) to a project which we hope will become a much-needed forum for lyrical poetry.

Much fun was had by all at this family-friendly, Saturday matinée event, which was in no way hampered by the ravages of Storm Darragh, which continued to rage outside as we celebrated in song and poetry. Thanks to all who attended, and to all those who were too far away to make it, I wish you could have been there!
