I long for those high lonely places
up there
in the realm of endless sun
up where
clouds gather then
skies thunder
lightning strikes
rain follows falling then
a rainbow paints the sky
and I long once again for those high places
those high, wide open spaces
where I once wandered freely
as a child
dreams, hopes, imagination
unrestrained
desire saying nothing more to me than
‘let me wander here!’
And still I long for those wide open spaces:
There where peace is
found yet let me rest a while
or when it is my time to rest
eternally then
let my dust rest there
up there, and blowing freely in the wind
around, above beyond, below, behind
those far unfettered spaces, do not doubt
that I have found
my perfect peace.

Posting this for Earthweal’s Open Link Weekend #44. Some nature poetry, perhaps a little morbid, but the late autumn light has put me into a reflective mood. I enjoy the beauty of the valley but feel a little locked-down until I get out onto the hillside.
Beautiful words, Ingrid. Your poem reminds me of one I love, titled, “I Shall Not Pass this Way Again” by Eva Rose York. 💐
This is such a beautiful poem, Michele – thank you for introducing me to it 🙏 I’m pleased you enjoyed my poem also 😊
Wonderful, Ingrid. So glad you read the poem. 💗 It is lovely, and so is yours. 😊
So beautifully expressed. I want to come with you!❤️❤️❤️✨✨✨✨✨✨
You would be more than welcome 😊🙏🏔
Your poem reads like a gust of high mountain air. I felt my mind clearing as I read it. In writing of the peace you find there you have spread that peace out to those who read your poem. Thank you.
This is a beautiful compliment, Suzanne: if I have done that then it makes me truly happy!
Openings are calling us all now. I especially like your description of our child-minds. We need to find them again. (K)
Yes, they are much wiser than our messed-up adult minds, I think.
Beautiful poem and sentiments, Ingrid. <3 I am glad you are doing some climbing to those high places while you are young. May you have the strength to do so for many more years! 🙂
Thank you, Cheryl – I hope I will. I’m grateful to have the opportunity 😊
Brilliant poem Ingrid. You paint a beautiful picture.
Thanks Hobbo!
Oh this is beautiful. Yes, the soul longs for those high peaceful places, especially when down here is so full of discord.
‘beyond, below, behind…’ wonderful! x
Why thank you! 😊
Oh, you and me both, Ingrid! I love this poem — especially as I’m currently in the Netherlands and I am missing my hills……..
