Earlier this year, I experimented with a rhymed cadralor. This idea has interested me for a while, as I wasn’t sure it could be done successfully, especially with the contextual dissonance required between stanzas. However, I sent it off to the editorial board at Gleam – Journal of the Cadralor, and they said “yes”! Thanks to Lori and the team for accepting my poem. Here is the opening:
I.
Lowther Castle
skeletal, among the autumn leaves
ablaze beneath the hill of Askham
shedding skins through centuries
II.
Buoyed by Storm Babet
the broken body of the whale
along coast at Whitley Bay
skies, gray as gunmetal
Continue reading in Issue 7 of Gleam.
Though this particular cadralor is not included in To Catch a Poem (as it was still under submission at the time of publication), my new poetry pamphlet does include two cadralore, one of which appeared in Issue 6 of Gleam. Thank you once again for helping me reach the Number 1 New Release spot on Amazon, I’m still coming down off that high! And thank you to the wonderful Selma Martin, author of In the Shadow of Rainbows, for this perceptive and insightful review of my book:
Selma’s review of To Catch a Poem
“Nothing grounds us more than recognizing that in all the world there’s one
place that belongs to us and, more importantly, to which we belong. And I like
nothing more than to read about beautiful places and people who, more than
just inhabiting the place, the place inhabits them.
“Reading once through the poems in To Catch A Poem …and other lines I walked
by Ingrid Wilson incited in me the recognition that here was a poet who was
happy to tell me about this beautiful place where she lives.
“In the book, the poet tells me that she goes crisscrossing the Northern
coast of England, her homeland, in search of “lines” of poetry and that these are
hidden in high places and wooded hollows. That nature is her place of worship,
and poetry her song of praise. I loved knowing this, and since purchasing the
print copy of the book, have reread it from start to finish several times.”

So it is with the utmost feeling of warmth and gratitude that I enter the holiday season. May you all have a wonderful time, however you spend the days between now and the New Year, when Team EIF will have another exciting announcement!

Well done and congratulations Ingrid … I especially liked your powerful 4th stanza
“IV.
Sharp-suited fascists
roll in cash, and demonise the poor
dig down into the great divide
and buy their votes in beer”

Congratulations on the publication of your cadralor! It’s one of the best I’ve read so far. That last line is just killer! Congratulations, too, on Selma’s review. I feel such a kinship with you for your love of the land, even though your landscape and mine are very different.

Ingrid, congratulations on yet another great win—Gleam is lucky to have you.
I’ve never attempted one such poem. Maybe one fine day.
Number 1 looks good on you! Yeah! As for the review, I’m just so happy to learn more about this beautiful place that resides (inhabits) your soul. Joys like these go a long way. Thanks for writing & making this available to the world, Ingrid. May your success continue.
Take a break in the pleasant glow of your wins and all the amazing things you did this year. Looking forward to your news next year. 🥹 And thank YOU 🙇🏽♀️

The rhyming was subtle.
It’s too bad the launch was so late your time. It would have been lovely to hear you read last night.
