Time Laps – A Sonnet

Time laps the shore of life, ripcurled, the tide
which pulls us under, washing over all
the sand, the land, the space, the race, the ride
and never fails to stand, nor make us fall.

We falter at the changes time brings on,
uncomprehend the lines etched on our skin;
the seasons dance their round, and we bemoan
the boundaries we’re forced to live within.

It is a prison all of our own making
the time, just like ourselves, illusory:
For flame, and tide and time, in our mistaking
seem concrete, lacking all fluidity

Yet see through time’s illusion and we find
a universal lens, to view
the mind.

New Lyricist update

Submissions to our new magazine are coming in fast, but there is still plenty of time to submit. As you can see above, I’ve been practising my formal poetry and word-play. You don’t have to use a set form for your submission, but formal poetry is most certainly welcome. Next week, we will be bringing you some musical inspiration, so do stay tuned for that!

  1. Ingrid, your sonnet beautifully captures the ebb and flow of time, weaving a poetic tapestry of life’s cyclical nature. The eloquent exploration of the illusion of time and the realization of a universal lens to view the mind is both thought-provoking and gracefully penned. A wonderful reflection on the intricacies of existence ~ wowzers!
