Rhythm of the River

Rhythm of the river,
iron-rich peaty veins,
bloodlines of the landscape
lead me home again

All throughout the summer
thunderclouds and rain
drumming out this pattern
over the flood-plain

Bowed heads of the hilltops
through millennia
hiding stone-carved symbols
of a past era

Though their ancient whispers
scarcely can be heard
prayers of our ancestors
coil within the code.

This poem was inspired by my last walk in Hadrian’s Wall country. The photo shows Cam Beck near Newtown. I haven’t been on WordPress too much lately, as I am busy preparing New Lyricist, Issue 2 for publication. I am also working on a new poetry collection, to be released later this year. More news to follow!
