I should also carry Joy

I carry worries, fears and cares
all through my day, and such employ
leaves little space to realise
that I should also carry joy.

I carry weight from many years’
sickness, responsibilities,
yet, in the midst of all of these,
know life is more than tears.

The dancing of the sunlit waves,
raindrops which wet the mouths of caves,
such secrets as I find within
wild nature’s broad domain:

The swallows gathered on high wires
like sundry dreams, and wild desires
which take wing to the waiting skies
in passionate deliveries.

So, as I go about my day
with all its cares, no time to toy
with whimsy, still I find a way:
I also carry joy.
