I am thrilled to have been voted Author of the Month at Spillwords Press for Jan/Feb 2021! I wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who voted for me: this means so much and I am so grateful for your time, kind words and support. Another heartfelt thank you to Dagmara and the team at Spillwords for featuring my work and interviewing me earlier this year. Spillwords truly is a place where words matter, and I recommend you visit their website to discover many more fantastic authors.
To celebrate this achievement, I would like to share a poem I wrote about self-acceptance:
Perfect Imperfection
Look at me, what do you see?
I’m perfect imperfection:
chipped nails, a worn-out face
and homecut hair…
Are you like me? A perfect figment of
your own imagination,
projecting a false image you think others
wish to see?
Why?
Do you think that they will love you more?
(They won’t.)
Why?
Because the most beautiful trait in all the world is
authenticity…
Beauty is truth and
truth is beauty, therefore
let it shine:
Unleash the light that hides within;
new-project the Divine…
Who would not wish to see that holy light?
(I would!)
Who sees it not, they have to bear that loss:
Shine on, all glorious and unrestrained
reborn, no more to bear
self-loathing’s self-wrought cross.

Congratulations, Ingrid! Your beautiful piece on self-acceptance is truly rendering. I struggle with self-acceptance but accepting me does not mean I cannot change, that I cannot continue to grow. Thank you for a lovely piece to provoke thought. May the words flow!

Thank you Jaya, and for you also! I think self-acceptance is an ongoing process through the course of a whole lifetime. Maybe ‘self-forgetting’ should be the ultimate goal, but having lost myself for a long time I suppose I’m not quite ready to let go.
