Patchwork #poetry for Kerfe Day!

We are patchwork, we
a constellation of colours
lighting children’s eyes
so many shades and blades of grass
in blue skies, bright or
clouded grey and white
blossoming, blooming
bursting forth
in springtime meadow-light.

April has been extended!

By Paul Brookes of The Wombwell Rainbow. He has hosted a special ekphrastic challenge for the month of April as part of NaPoWriMo2021, and though I didn’t take part, I read and enjoyed many of the responses.

When I learned that today had been renamed April 31 in honour of Kerfe Roig’s wonderful collage ‘Full of Children,’ I felt I must respond. I find ekphrastic poetry very hard, but this artwork really spoke to me. Read more of the responses on Paul’s site.

    1. Thanks Merril! I find it much easier to write a poem first then find an image to fit, but this one was so lovely it was easy to come up with a response.

  1. your lovely verse and Kerfe’s delightful patchwork reminded me of my years in child protection … one child from the inner city spoke of all the blades of grass :)
