You sent me a slightly smiling face 🙂
But what does it mean, that slightly smiling face? 🙂
You like me, but not too much?
‘Would you kindly stop texting me now, I don’t want to be rude, but it’s enough?’ 🤬
So mysterious! So inscrutable, that slightly smiling face!
If you’d sent me an ROFL 🤣 I’d know you liked my jokes at least,
Or an angry face 😠 I’d know you were displeased, but – oh! That slightly smiling face
Tormenting me – just stop it, please!
I think I’m going to 🤢
Or maybe I’ll just smile, with blushing cheeks 😊
Don’t get me started on the meanings of those multi-coloured hearts…
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎
A new form is born…
David ‘ben’ Alexander of The Skeptic’s Kaddish has invented a new form: the emoji poem. Convinced this is going to become a new craze, I wanted to get my offering in early!
Emoji are fascinating, aren’t they? David describes them as ‘a kind of modern hieroglyphics.’ Most of them aren’t really abstract in nature, but facial expressions are so nuanced, we can be left wondering what the emoji really mean…
And for the linguists amongst us, must the singular of ’emoji’ be ’emojo?’ I simply have to know! 🤣
If you try this yourself, be sure to credit David, and let’s get a #emojipoetry party started on Twitter too!
Too funny 🤣
I’m honored, Ingrid 🧡
Glad you enjoyed my poem of emoji paranoia! 😂
So much ❣️
Lol I just sent you one Ingrid but, being blind, it could have been anything for I iften hit the wrong one! Brilliant!
Fun read. Funny.
Glad you enjoyed 😅
All well and good, exccept I have a vocabulary of, like, 3 emojis. I daresay most people are the same.
😊🤣😂
yes, they’re them!
Old skool 🤭
I knew this type of poetry would be contentious! Which is why I had to have a go 😅
oops. just oneemoji 🤣
Emojo/emoji
Panino/panini:
Let’s call the whole thing off 😂
🍅 / 🍅
People who don’t use emojis in text messages are also inscrutable. I find it bizarre how quickly I have become dependent on emojis as a guide to tone.
Me too – punctuation just doesn’t cut it anymore 😅
Cute, and I think emojis can be very useful sometimes to help explain the tone someone means in a text or comment–but I do hope emoji poems don’t become a form.
Perhaps we should start carving them into rocks for the benefit of future archaeologists! 😅
😀
🌏🐶🌈☂❄ This one made me smile for a little while … but “EIGHT” was too much for old fashioned Aussie … 🙂😏🤔

🤣 I don’t blame you Ivor 😂🙏
I can’t “read” actual facial expressions, let alone emojis. But then all languages are inexact. I like the visuals of this form though. (K)
I think it’s an interesting idea!
Haha! Love this, Ingrid. The half smile puzzles me too and often I respond similarly even though I want to send a full wholesome smile. 😊❤️
I’ve given up these days and just send the full smile 😊 if my heart is full, why not share it?
Oh, I am smiling at this! I love the humor in it and the snappy feel of the lines. <3
This is delightful, Ingrid! I love using emojis and believe they express our feelings. 😊❤️
Thank you Eugi 😊❤️
oh this was too good and you know me I’m smiling ear to ear as I love them.. lol. Maybe you will be the first poet partner for David and this can go on his post. 🤣❤️🤗😘😎
I knew you would like this one Cindy 😊❤️😊 I think if I was writing something for David I would come up with something new, maybe my next emoji poem 🤔😅🙏
Love the poem, Ingrid! Wish I had more emojis to use. i do have them on my emails. This is my repitoire: 🙁 🙂 <3
Thank you, Cheryl: a bit of fun 😊
