For a long time
I thought that Mother’s Day
could only be some other’s day
but I was wrong:
I know it’s yours and mine
Every other day
goes by so ordinarily
but this one should be
celebrated,
venerated, and expressed in rhyme
You left me with
so many gifts, you see
an ease, a grace, a natural beauty
a love bestowed unselfishly
this flame which burns within
The rhythm of my life is poetry
in times of deepest pain, or deepest joy
the golden thread flowing from you to me
the umbilical chorded eternally,
the bond, unbreakable, which still remains.
Happy Mother’s Day 2022

Happy Mother’s Day to you, Ingrid. That’s what I want to say to you because I celebrate the wonderful person I know you are. That can only come to you as an extension of someone else: someone who showed you the way, planted the seed. She lives in you. Know that.
Happy Mother’s Day, dear friend. Don’t worry about responding to me. I’m always mesmerized by you. I feel you in your poetry. xoxo.
