Coming Soon: ‘Three-Penny Memories’ by Barbara Harris Leonhard

EIF is excited to announce the forthcoming publication of Barbara Harris Leonard’s debut poetry collection: Three-Penny Memories: A Poetic Memoir. The book, which is due for release on 15 October 2022, tells the story of the author’s changing relationship with her mother through a series of logically connected narrative poems.

Barbara Harris Leonhard’s has been widely published both online and in print, most recently in the Amazon-bestselling anthology, Wounds I Healed: The Poetry of Strong Women. She earned third place and honorary mention for two poems in Well Versed 2021. Barbara was voted Spillwords Author of the Month of October 2021 and recognised as a Spillwords Socialite of the Year in 2021.

About the Book

The theme of the book is summarised by the author as follows: “Can a daughter help her mother navigate the progression of Alzheimer’s and learn to love the stranger her mother has become?”

She goes on to explain that:

The “container” for the collection is the number 3. In my mother’s last days, I was getting out of the car and saw three shiny new pennies lined up on the hot cement. Mom always wanted me to pick up pennies, but I wouldn’t. I didn’t pick these pennies up either, even though I thought their position and brilliant shine was a possible message. Indeed, she died on the 3rd of April 2016.

Engaging from the outset, the carefully crafted poems contained within this collection touch the heart as they explore the complex and challenging nature of the mother-daughter relationship. It is an honour to be publishing this collection, and I look forward with anticipation to the book’s release. Stay tuned for further updates!

  2. Congratulations, Barbara and Ingrid, for a book on a very relevant topic. I am sure many people will relate.

My mother died from Alzheimers eight years ago. Spending time with her and doing what I could for her during the last few years of her life was a very rewarding experience. I look forward to reading your new book. <3
