It is my pleasure to announce that I have nominated Barbara Harris Leonhard’s poem, “Mom and I Play Lassos with Our Hysterectomy Scars” for a Pushcart Prize. The poem is from Three-Penny Memories: A Poetic Memoir, published by EIF in October 2022. I chose this particular poem because, although it forms an integral part of the book’s narrative, it also stands alone as a testament to women’s hidden struggles. It is a poem of mother-daughter love, both light-hearted and deep-rooted. It is a triumph, and, in my opinion, thoroughly deserving of the prize. I would like to congratulate Barbara, and wish her all the very best with the nomination!
Praise for Three-Penny Memories
I am delighted that Barbara’s book has been receiving rave reviews since its launch last month. Thank you to all who have left a review on Amazon. Here are some quotes from recent reviews:
“The author skillfully weaves parallels between the changing relationship with her mother and her own life; speaking with raw intensity, gut wrenching truth and humor.
The poetry unveils their entangled lives in a way that mere prose could not have equaled.
I cannot wait to share this unique and uplifting book. I found it riveting.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This collection moved me as I thought of my grandmother in her later years and recalled my own mother’s struggles to be a loyal daughter and all that entails. I feel each poem can stand on its own as cleverly crafted flashes into a vast array of emotions, but together, they take the reader on a journey that begins and ends with love. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

By the end of my final reading, I had cradled Author Barbara Harris Leonhard in a warm sisterly embrace. No, it was the other way around because when I finally set the book down, I no longer felt bare like I did at the beginning.
A memorable book. I highly recommend Three-Penny Memories – A Poetic Memoir by Barbara Harris Leonhard. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
