I spent a season in the midnight rain
I spent a season searching
I spent a season barrelling the main
upon a longboat, lurching
I spent a season sleeping, sullen, dreaming
I spent a season yearning
for love to be rekindled once again
at summertime’s returning
I spent a season searching in my heart
I spent a season learning
I travelled forward to go back again
and all the while, still burning
And bright, I burned, while your light shone upon
some distant rock, bejewelled
I could not see it
too soon, I turned, and saw you standing where
the salt spume and the waves hit.
I spent a season lost, and felt alone
I spent a season sleeping
only to find the lonely way back home
within my heart’s own keeping.
