This morning, upon wakening
the day’s beginning welcoming
I sought a different song to sing.
I listened to the birds outside
whose joy it would be hard to hide
and wondered how I might abide
without such gentle carolling.
I listened to the cricket-song
which stayed with me the whole day long
and even once the day was gone
continued, faintly murmuring.
I heard the wind wail through the trees
(such rare and haunting melodies!)
and know that I’ve been blessed with these
earth-songs, all nature’s offering.

Beautiful Ingrid! I, too, am grateful for these things. Even as the season is changing, I still heard a mockingbird singing and the harvest moon was shining early this morning.

Nature does sing the sweetest tunes and paint the most vibrant images that artists come close to duplicating, but never exceeding. A beautiful post, Ingrid. It appears that you were carried through your day by good vibes, in and outside. 🥰

Beautiful write about the sounds of mother earth. I know what you mean about the crickets songs. We have background crickets in the house all the time. One gets use to the constant sound in the south, and I find them comforting also. Beautiful piece. Hugs and love, Joni

What a pleasurable song you endowed us with today. As I sit here writing this the birds are quietly sleeping. It’s 9:30 pm. But the crickets and frogs and many the many living creatures of the night sing to me melodiously.
When morning comes and the birds come visiting I will recall your poem. And the song will replay once more.
Thanks for sharing. Loved it.

It is good to carol these voices because in a generation they may be mostly gone except in remembered song.

I had never seen or heard this powerful Michael Jackson video. Deeply disturbing visuals. Sadly, probably even more applicable today than when it was written.
Have a great week! <3

I don’t often appreciate form poetry that carries obvious rhyme, but you’ve crafted this so well – it rolls effortlessly off the tongue ~
