Question Halloween? by Gunta Binks #SonnetSunday

Dark, secluded mournful place
No one comes here to show their face
For this is where the cold dead must stay
Even on the sunniest day.

So we celebrate this? Put up your lanterns
Pumpkins, cobwebs and fake phantoms
Do we really think it’s fun?
Ask yourself what have we done?

Are they all props to hide our sins?
November the 1st, put it all in bins
Forget it, lets look forward to Christmas
Tinsel this time and ask for forgiveness.

Twitter, Trump, all gas and air
To our children is this fair?
Maybe not, whose to say?
But always enjoy the day 😈

A fun sonnet with a serious message…

…about our throwaway society, courtesy of Gunta Binks. Thank you, Gunta, for reminding us how quickly all of the fake decorations and discarded costumes are forgotten! But let us not forget to have a little fun…

  1. Gunta, Your well-written poem gives much-needed perspective to celebrations. Halloween is indeed a fun holiday, though some have used it to commit mischief! Christmas is a joyous time, though some people celebrate to excess, spoiling their children and running up balances on their credit cards. Holidays, like most things in life, are what you make them. Like you, I vote for fun! 🙂

Amusing video with fun special effects, Ingrid! <3

  2. I love that this piece goes beyond the ordinary and puts the waste into full perspective! Your words are mindful and yet enjoyable and fun at the same time.
