White Heaven #poetry

Underneath the skies of this white heaven
marionettes dance
dip and bow
crawl
mount a lampost
scare the children

Seagulls on sticks stalk
jellyfish catchers
catch them unawares
the children’s faces
glittering, are painted

At the bar, a hen-night princess
appears as a mirage
or haze of nylon taffeta
and disappears into a fruited cider
where would-be princesses admire her
captures her knight-errant, entombs him in a castle tower

Underneath the skies of this white heaven
I see your eyes
in the colour and cast of this blue-agate sea
send messages in bottles, binary
upon the tide-swell daydreams dazzle
digitally
daring
to
fly
free

Linking to earthweal’s weekly challenge, ‘Wild Stillness:’ I hope this piece fits the bill, as a series of stills, wherein human nature dances with the supernatural…

  1. A well picturised poem.

    Here’s my favourite part:

    “send messages in bottles, binary
    upon the tide-swell daydreams dazzle
    digitally
    daring
    to
    fly
    free”

    Thank you sharing.😊

  2. Maybe stillness is one of those places where the veil is thin — if we behold long enough the singular, all the sublime gates start widening. And stillness is everywhere – the eye slides through the stanzas, each another rapt Thing to behold.

  3. A real sense of immediacy, of being there, in this poem, Ingrid. Love ‘blue-agate sea.” and the captive knights. The characters are vivid and alive and yet there is also a stillness in that capture of them as you suggest in your notes. Thanks for the trip to a another land–I need some sparkle and life under the white heavens, which here are an unalloyed, burning blue of shimmering heat.
