If you’re looking for me
I might just be
in deep poetic heaven
through mirror-halled mazes
of metaphors
guided by vulture or raven
I’m wandering, wondering
sharing your hope and your pain
diving the deep seas where trawlers
have emptied the ocean
seeking out hydrothermal vents
where life may begin again
and I’m screaming ‘stop!’
and I hope we’ll wake up from this madness
deep in poetic heaven
it’s hard to tell the top
from the bottom
still I surface in time
on the pebble-shore walk
with a whim and a rhyme
to the forest to talk
with the trees and their spirits
a-whispering still
‘Believe in our power
for the cure
not to kill.’

Written for Earthweal
I’m in the process of reviewing submissions for The Antrhopocene Hymnal, and I’ve been blown away by the response. I just love immersing myself in this poetry, and hoping that our words can in some small way make a difference. I need to thank Brendan and Sherry at Earthweal especially, as the whole idea for the book came from this wonderful, earth-conscious forum.
Deep poetic heaven sounds like a grand place to be! Good luck with reviewing submissions. 😀

How did Mary Oliver put it in her poem “Swans” —
Said Mrs. Blake of the poet:
I miss my husband’s company—
he is so often
in paradise.
That is the realm here, but it is not a transcendent one — not intended for departure from Earth but the middle heaven inside the one we do so poorly in every day. I read the poem as gripping the roots in order to flower. How else will we learn? Thanks Ingrid –

So smooth and deep words. My mind stopped for a second and started thinking on your words. It agrees,
“ Belive in the power, the cure not to kill”.

And your poem is earth-conscious too. I love the message of the trees at the end. Humankind must cure itself of its blood lust.

Hmmm….comment disappeared. Your poem is very earth-conscious, too, and I am eagerly anticipating your anthology. I love the message of the trees at the end of your poem……..humankind must cure itself of its blood lust if we are to survive.

Third try with my comment. Sigh. I love your poem, especially the message from the trees at its end. Let’s see if this shorter comment makes it through.
